Chainsaw Man, the most anticipated anime television series of the year, if not a decade, will premiere in 2022. Crunchyroll and Studio MAPPA eventually held a Chainsaw Man anime panel at the Anime Expo 2022 after a year-long wait and multiple teases.
The first anime teaser was shown to attendees during the Chainsaw Man anime panel, and then the event visitors began to enter. Hiroshi Seko, the series composer, was joined by Manabu Otsuka, the CEO of MAPPA. Makoto Kimura joined MAPPA as executive director and managing director. Fans began yelling, “Chainsaw Man!! Chainsaw Man!! “
Later, the panel host began a Q&A session with the crew, and the producers attempted to answer as many questions as they could. Manabu Otaku, CEO of Mappa, confessed that he is a major admirer of the Chainsaw Man manga and that his favourite character from the series is Power. The following is the whole Q&A session with Chainsaw Man staff:
Q: How was Chainsaw Man chosen for adaptation?
A: We first became interested in Chainsaw Man when the manga first appeared. Normally, there is something called a production committee in anime production, but this time we are doing everything ourselves.
Q: What points were considered while writing the script for Chainsaw Man anime?
A: We want to make sure everything is hardcore, no soft stuff!
Q: What’s the production structure to help make the anime?
A: The CEO is a huge fan of the manga. He wants to create an anime for himself and the fans that all can enjoy.
Q: How is Tatsuki Fujimoto involved in the production of the anime?
A: We are working very closely with him. We want this to be a representation of the original even down to the casting of the voice actors.
Q: How will the anime adapt to the intense and gore scenes of the series?
A: We always want to emphasize the rawness of the original and the realness of the images. We want it to be dynamic and theatrical. Simply put, no censorship!
Q: Was it difficult for the staff to transfer the wild pacing of the manga into the anime?
A: Keeping true to the original, we are trying to keep as close to the original, we may add more time to some scenes that have more impact.
When asked to applaud for their favourite character, the guests began to bark, making a “Woof Woof* reference from the manga, which the producers joked about using in future productions. The producer also made a humorous remark about Denji, adding, “Denji’s vitality derives from his raw needs, food and ladies.” He also stated that his favourite character is Denji.
Unfortunately, there was no trailer or key graphic at the end of the Chainsaw Man anime panel, and when asked when new information on the series would be released, Mappa’s CEO responded, “We really wanted to bring some news for us today, but we want it to be flawless before revealing it to the fans.” More information will be released at the Crunchyroll Expo on August 5-7, according to the CEO.
