The anime Date A Live is based on the same-named light novel series written by Kshi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako. Kadokawa Shoten and Fujimi Shobo also adapted five light novels into manga. The light novels were picked up by the AIC Plus+ studio for an anime adaptation, which was released in April 2013. Production IMS produced the second season, which premiered in April 2014. JC Staff produced the third season, which premiered in January 2019. The fourth season, which aired in April 2022, was produced by Geek Toys.
In certain regions, the anime series is available on Crunchyroll. The following is how the streaming service describes the series:
Ordinary high school boy Shido discovers a mysterious girl at ground zero of a recent spacequake. Shido learns, through his sister Kotori, that the girl is one of the Spirits: mystical creatures responsible for the spacequakes. Shido is recruited to help “seal” the sprits and end their threat to mankind. There’s just one catch: the only way to seal a spirit—is to make her fall in love with you.
